In 2006, the NLC launched a series of events with local artists. In order to benefit the Loring Campaign, Membership Coordinator Elisabeth Hazell invited artists to visit the 270 acres in order to create works for a benefit exhibition.  Participating artists then submitted their works to a peer-based jury and 38 artists were selected to exhibit at the first annual “Love of the Land” exhibition at the Brigham Galleries. The first event of its kind on Nantucket, the opening reception kicked-off the Fall Arts Festival, with several hundred people turning up to view and purchase paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Since the original Loring Exhibit, past themes have included:  Nantucket Wildlfowers, Nantucket Trees, Nantucket Water, and the 2010 exhibit will feature works inspired by Nantucket's Wildlife.  Opening on Friday, August 13th from 6-9 pm at the Studio, 48 Main Street.

“From the Wetlands to the Wall” was the Nantucket Land Council's second cultural project with local artists.  An exhibition of works created from debris removed from Nantucket Beaches, the event was organized by artist Susan Whelihan, who accompanied The Clean Team on one of their weekly clean-ups. Sponsored by a grant from the Nantucket Arts Council, and exhibited at the Artists Association of Nantucket, this event was an incredible collaborative effort that drew attention to conservation and the importance of a clean natural environment.  Read more about the event in the Nantucket Independent's article here.
