Donate & Join: Bequests

Bequests ensure a legacy of environmental action on Nantucket, while easing the burden of estate taxes on your heirs.

The Nantucket Land Council, Inc. recommends that you consult with your attorney when writing or changing your will. We have provided a list of suggested language for various forms of bequests. Please remember that these are simply suggested guidelines and that we are available to meet with you and your attorney to draft a bequest that is appropriate for you. Cash Bequest
I hereby give and bequeath to the Nantucket Land Council, Inc. (Federal Tax I.D. #510-180-597) the sum of _______ dollars ($USD) to be used for its general purposes.

Specific Bequest
I hereby give and bequeath to Nantucket Land Council, Inc. (Federal Tax I.D. #510-180-597) _____(#)____ shares of _____(type of securities)_____ [all my right, title and interest in the following described property: _____(e.g. Real estate, antiques or artwork)___________]to be used or sold for its general purposes.

Residuary Bequest
I hereby give and bequeath to Nantucket Land Council, Inc. (Federal Tax I.D. #510-180-597) all (or ____%) of the rest, residue or remainder of my estate to be used for its general purposes.

Contingent Bequest
I hereby give and bequeath (description of property) to my spouse, if he or she survives me. If my spouse does not survive me, I give and bequeath (description of property) to Nantucket Land Council, Inc. (Federal Tax I.D. #510-180-597) to be used for its general purposes.

Gifts Through a Trust
Upon the death of (Recipient), the Trustee(s) shall distribute (all, amount, or percentage) of the then remaining principal and income of the Trust (other than any amount due the Recipient or the Recipient’s estate under the provisions above) to Nantucket Land Council, Inc. (Federal Tax I.D. #510-180-597) to be used for its general purposes.

Restricted Use
Modify any bequest by adding a restrictive clause such as: … to be used for the following: ___________________________. If the Nantucket Land Council, Inc. determines at any time that such purpose is obsolete, inappropriate or impracticable, the NLC may use the income or principal of this bequest for whatever purpose they deem advisable.
