NLC News: Clean Water Topics on Tap

The Nantucket Land & Water Council is excited to present our summer virtual series:
Clean Water – Topics on Tap presented by Donelan Family Wines. Each month from June through September, the NLC will host a special guest speaker for our live virtual webinar, who will present on a water quality topic followed by a live Q&A.

The series started Thursday, June 18th, we welcomed Dr. Jack Ahern to discuss “Ecological Landscaping on Nantucket”. Dr. Ahern, a professor of Landscape Architecture at UMASS Amherst, discussed the importance of protecting our vulnerable water and coastal resources through better landscaping practices. If you missed the June presentation, watch HERE, and learn why and how, as he discusses a plant community approach to celebrate the beauty of our island in your own backyard.

This coming Thursday, July 16th, our topic will be “Harmful Algal Blooms and Ponds on Nantucket” with Dr. Ken Wagner. Registration is live HERE, which allows you to participate as an attendee and ask questions.  You can also watch live on YouTube HERE, and we will be adding the video to our website after the event.

On August 13th, we look forward to a presentation and live cooking demonstration by Mary Parks with “Green Crabs…Danger and Delicacy”.  On September 10th, we are pleased to host Graeme Durovich from the Town of Nantucket Department of Public Works to present on the Town’s coastal plastics research and the 2020 Plastics Ban.

Each event will be held virtually on a zoom webinar at 5pm and broadcast live on YouTube; and Zoom registration is available HERE.  Registration will allow you to participate as an  attendee and ask questions. Join us!
