The Oyster Farmers

The Nantucket Land & Water Council is pleased to partner with the Nantucket Shellfish Association and 100 Mile Makers to bring you a night devoted to oysters. This evening is inspired by local food, local farmers, sustainable seafood and all the groups working to protect Nantucket’s water quality. On Saturday, December 2nd we’ll begin our event at the Starlight with a showing the documentary “The Oyster Farmers.” It chronicles farmers and fisherman in the Barnegat Bay area of New Jersey. The Eastern Oyster was once a staple in the Bay but after years of its absence a new generation is bringing them back into the mainstream. After the movie we’ll walk over to 14 Easy Street where local oyster farmers Chuck Connors of Great Harbor Oysters and Simon Edwardes of Fifth Bend Oysters will be on hand and there will be time to discuss the movie, oyster farming and water quality, specifically in Nantucket’s harbors. Good conversation will be paired with a sampling of local oysters, other sustainable seafood, and tastings of Cape Cod’s Devil’s Purse Brewing Company beers and Long Island’s Channing Daughter wines. A limited number of tickets will also be available for the movie only.

Date: Saturday, December 2 at 6pm
